With the introduction of the new Community Page module, there is also a new option to highlight community guidelines and policies. As I'm sure everyone on the wiki is well aware, written examples for many of our policies are either hard to find, non-existent, way out of date, extremely confusing, or some combination thereof. With that in mind, I've created a new board in our forums so that we can update our policies and keep better track of them via highlighted ("sticky") threads that will show up as a notification to all users on our wiki (both logged in and anonymous). There's something new happening over at Community Central. It's called "Wikia University", and it is an ongoing series of video tutorials about Wikia. For more details, read Sannse's blog post. Or you can just go straight to Wikia University to get started.
There's a new technical update getting ready to go live on January 22, 2014. Check it out on community central.
Some highlights include:
- Bug fixes, including profile pages & forum highlights
- CSS changes
- A new special page for admins: Special:ParserSpeed
- Starting next Monday (UTC−8), Wikia will begin transferring images to a new DFS (Distributed File System) storage system. This will be very similar to a related process that happened in November and December. The transfer will be done on a wiki-by-wiki basis, with the smaller, older wikis getting updated first. That means this wiki may not be affected until late Monday or Tuesday (or even later). While the script is transferring the images on this wiki, uploads on this wiki will be disabled. Thi…
