A Farm Upgrade can be bought from the Market. This increases the size of a player's farm. There are nine expansions that can be bought, with either Farm Cash or, if a farmer has enough neighbors and coins. All farms are square. The expansion is always added to the bottom two sides of the farm. Farm expansions are sequential, and cannot be purchased until all lower options have been bought as well. For example, to get the Big Ole plantation, you must buy the Plantation, Big Family Farm, Family Farm and Homestead upgrades beforehand. Once you reach Level 20 and complete the quests to access your English Farm, you can also expand it. You do not have to expand your home farm before you can access/expand your English farm, however upgrades to your English farm are also sequential.

All farms have two extra rows of 1x1 squares around the edge, for example, the default 12x12 plot farm is actually 50x50 squares (48+2x48+2). Farmers who had 30 or more neighbors when the 26x26 farm size was released need 5 more neighbors. Farmers who had 45 or more neighbors when 28x28 was released for coins needed 10 more neighbors.

England Farm Expansion

On the English Countryside, expansions require asking friends on facebook to be surveyors on your farm, rather than requiring you to have a given number of neighbors.

Lighthouse Cove Farm Expansion

On Lighthouse Cove you have limited number of plots. Increasing number of plots is possible only by farm expansions. For expansions you need neighbors, but that is same neighbors like on Home farm.

Hawaii Paradise Farm Expansion

You start with usual 12x12 farm with up to 45 plots on land and 10 plots in the water.

Landscapes change the appearance of a farmer's farm land. They can be bought from the Market for 1,000 coins and will give 10 XP.

Consumables

On February 19, FarmVille added 2 new features in the "Upgrade Farm" tab. Arborists and Farmhands. They both cost 5 farm cash. The Arborists will harvest all of a farmer's trees at once; Farmhands will harvest all animals at once. These two helpers may only be used once.
